For instance, Sarojini Naidu, also known as the “Nightingale of India,” was a poet, politician, and activist who fought for women’s rights and India’s independence. Kalpana Chawla, India’s first female astronaut, lost her life in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Kamala Das, a Malayalam poet and author, challenged traditional gender roles through her writing. Cornelia Sorabji was the first female lawyer in India and fought for women’s rights in the legal system. Arati Saha was the first Indian woman to swim across the English Channel, and Mary Kom is a world champion boxer who has won several medals for India.
